As founder and principal of Capital Navigation Group, John's unwavering passion for his clients is driven by a unique set of core values and beliefs. Connection, Simplicity, and Execution make up the foundation of John's unique approach to wealth management and life planning. John believes in meeting people where they are, developing authentic relationships, simplifying the complex and earning your trust by keeping promises and executing. John also believes that "no one should walk alone" and that everyone should have the opportunity to be independent and to live a life in alignment with their values, beliefs, and dreams.
Prior to founding CNG, John spent 18 years as a financial advisor providing estate, business succession, and investment planning with Capital Analysts of New England and Manufacturers Financial. Originally from West Hartford, Connecticut, John fell in love with the city of Boston while attending College at Northeastern. Today, he and his wife Gloria live on the scenic Boston Harbor. John's physical pursuits include sailing, yoga, and exercising. As a life long learner, John is an avid reader of subjects ranging from emotional intelligence, spirituality & life-purpose to biographies on influential entrepreneurs and leaders.
John’s unique approach to wealth management and life planning have been well documented in publications including; Physician’s Money Digest, Bear & Bull, the Patriot Ledger, and Banker & Tradesman. John has also appeared on 1030 AM in Boston and has lectured extensively throughout New England, where he is recognized for his expertise in wealth management and life planning.
John is a member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, Financial Planning Association, Boston Estate Planning Council, Family Firm Institute, and Chief Executive Club of Boston. In addition, he is a sponsor to the Nativity Prep School in Roxbury, Massachusetts.
Education and Certifications
John received his Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and Finance from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts; his Chartered Financial Consultant® degree from The American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania; and his Accredited Investment Fiduciary® designation from the Center of Fiduciary Studies in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was designated as a Certified Fund Specialist® by the Institute of Business and Finance in La Jolla, California. John also received a Behavioral Finances and Investment Decisions Certificate from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Stephen P. Quin
Investment/Wealth Research Assistant
Stephen joined CNG in April 2010 as the investment/wealth research management assistant.
In his role, Stephen assists in implementing CNG’s investment management process, which includes defining clients’ investment objectives, determining asset allocation, portfolio construction, and managing and monitoring investments.
Stephen also assists in implementing CNG’s overall wealth management process, including retirement, estate, risk management, business, and tax planning.
Prior to joining CNG, Stephen worked for eight years at Lowell Blake and Associates in Boston, an investment management company that addresses the investment/wealth management needs of high-net-worth individuals, businesses, nonprofits, and foundations.
Stephen served as a senior account manager and senior research associate.
Stephen holds a BS in business management with a concentration in finance from Bryant College in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
Stephen resides in Salem, Massachusetts, with his wife, Katie, and enjoys playing golf and following the Boston sports teams.
